hi there, i have a question here and any suggestions would be appreciated. i saw that VW dealer catalog sells lowering springs for GTIs MK5's now. Mine is a 2007 4 door DSG. so i called the dealer and he said the springs are made by Eibach but doesn't know if its pro-kit or sportline. but he said it cost $285.00 plus tax and they will install it labor cost is $450.00 and it will be covered under the warranty as a factory equipment. my question is this worth it? not sure how much it will lower it. i would really like to get h&r sport springs but don't know who can install them here in Northern California here in the Bay Area. if anyone knows a place that would install springs please let me know. thanks!
They've actually sold those springs for a while.
The springs are NOT Pro-Kit or Sportline springs -- those are aftermarket springs made by Eibach obviously and are progressive type.
The VW/DriverGear springs are linear, but are made by Eibach for VW. They're blue in color.
You can actually get them cheaper online though then $285. I paid $255 from my dealer last year (when I had them), but they're only $220.88 here:

As for concern with warranty....when does your warranty expire & how many miles on your car? You have a 2007 and there's probably only maybe a year left on it I would assume (since it's 2010 & you have a 4 year warranty).
Depending on the mileage, the suspension components might be wearing out too.
So.....realistically....the DriverGear springs are not the best deal out there for you.
My 2010 GTI (stock) sat at the height of the DriverGear springs when I had them on my MKV.
You can get the Pro-Kit springs for cheaper (around $200-220?) and sit a little lower. Pair them up with some FSD dampers, and you'll have a comfy ride.
Or find some used (low mileage) dampers and run those instead.
As for the labor rate, $450 is
CRAZY! I've done mine myself every time, and it only costed me maybe $30 for the tools (1 time purchase), $40 to have the springs mounted on the struts (at a local shop), and $15 for the new bolts/nuts needed.
