Golf-V Aftermarket Suspension Guide

I think Eibach pics are on coil's. Every mkv I've seen on Eib. sportline springs sits a little high in the front. The pic is when I was on them, that's why I switched to H&R s/s springs. Eibach ad's the S/L springs to drop .2" (almost 1/4") more in the front, but the drop is even.

x2

The rear LOOKS like it's a little lower, but the drop overall leaves the car level....it's an illusion pretty much

Will 225/35/19 rub on H&R Supersport's?

What offset/width wheels? I'd say not especially if you have the front fender screw removed. I've ran 18x8 ET45 wheels with 225/40/18's on my old springs which were just as low in the front as super sports and a little higher in the rear, but I never rubbed in the front with them.

With the super sports, I've never had issues with my Classix (17x7 ET51) and 225/45/17 tires, or my autox setup, which is 17x8 ET42 with a 235/40/17 tire and spirited i.e. autox driving.

But again, if you're running a lower offset wheel, you could rub. I doubt it though.

Those were with Sachs Racing dampers (from a Autotech ClubSport Kit)

i have the autotech clubsport kit right now, but will be picking up my buddy's H&R supersports this spring so my setup will be similar. the autotech has no rake, which is what gives the same illusion as what people were talking about with the sportlines.

i haven't seen anyone on this forum running ground controls yet. i looked into it a while back, but never really got very far.

Yeah I had the AutoTech Kit/springs on the front, but didn't like how they didn't go low enough....so I bought the Sportlines instead

Hey Guys, quick question. What is everyone thoughts on going H&R super sports with the Koni yellows as opposed to just going with the H&R sport cup kit? Is the matched spring/shock better then mixing the H&R with konis? or are they fine?

I imagine it'd be fine with the Koni's. KW coilovers use Koni struts, so they are very good.

I have the old sport cupkit with 2.2" front drop and 1.6" rear drop (2006/2007 GTI's, 08+'s are .6" lower due to the Euro springs), but now I have super sport springs with the same H&R cupkit struts. Honestly, I think the struts are the same as the new sport cupkit that advertises a 1.9" drop all the way around for 2006/2007's, and 1.3" all around for 08+'s. Based on that, I'm pretty sure the new sport cupkit uses the super sport springs.

Anyhow, I've never had experience with Koni struts, but I hear they're good. A buddy of mine had them (they're adjustable correct?) combined with H&R sport springs and he did very well at autox. He liked that you could change the damping settings. That said, I do love my sport cupkit. It's pretty taut and I'd say it has higher springs rates i.e. more taut than FK coilovers. I'm not sure if H&R manufactures their own struts, but I believe H&R coilovers use Bilstein struts as they're yellow. The sport cupkit struts are painted gray, but who knows, maybe they are Bilstein?

Either way, I'd say both setups are good. What are you planning on using the car for?

Just my daily driver with some spirited driving thrown in on weekends. So not for any racing or anything. I was originally going to go with the Koni coils but based on pics I'm happy with the drop of the H&R SS/cup kit. So I was hoping to save a bit of cash and not go for coils as I don’t see myself adjusting the car once I pick a height I’m happy with.

As it stands right now I’m debating between H&R sport cup kit, H&R SS with Koni Yellows or just to add one more in the mix the Eibach Sportline with Koni yellows but based on the pics I’ve seen the H&Rs are slightly lower so I prefer them. Price wise all 3 of these setups are within $30 of each other since the Konis are on sale right now.

The H&R Cupkit is pretty appealing since it’s a matched kit but I had the Koni yellows on my MK4 GTi I used to own and loved them. Decisions decisions....

Well all 3 suspensions are good. I'm not sure if this is true, but the Koni shock combo may ride slightly softer than the H&R cupkit, so that may appeal to you if you're not racing. But, my H&R cupkit with the SS springs is very tolerable, even on crappy roads in the winter.
