i saw plastic covers.

what's a freeze plug?

Sometimes called by another name (that I can't think of at the moment) But it's a steel or brass plug that fits snugly into different spots on the motor in the coolant passages and on the coolany passages of the head. We have anti-freeze to protect our coolant from freezing in the wintertime but, not everyone keeps up with changing it and sometimes that coolant does end up freezing. When that happens, it would solidify any water in the motor and probably end up cracking a block or a head. Thats where the freeze plug comes in. Instead of the water freezing and cracking the block, that pressure is applied to the freeze plug and the ice just pushes the plug out instead of cracking the block.

Kind of confusing... but thats the best I can explain it.

just finished my install of the oem bypass pipe. super pain in the ass. not a complex job.. just one part is a huge pain. Thats getting the new pipe into the upper hose. (while also getting it over its top stud). I spent over an hour on this job, and 45 mins of it was that one part. I eventually found a trick for next time. Unplug ur fan harness which is along the bottom. then remove the 3 fan shroud bolts you can get to, and swing the fan down a little. This moves a thick part out of the way a little, and then i got the upper pipe on instantly. If I do it again, I take the 1 mins to remove those 3 bolts first.

Yeah, they definaly have it. Just measure the opening of the tube you're plugging and then ask for a feeze plug that is about that size.

Just found out that we in the UK have the A3 pipe fitted as standard. Wonder why that is?

Just checked ETOS and can confirm that the 'modified' pipe is fitted to the Octavia too.

will a 44-47mm expansion plug work?

i assume it's a freeze plug.

UPDATE: that plug was too big! I put a 1 1/4" plug in and works!

it's quieter and the throttle response apears quicker! used to seem to take nearly .5sec to boost, now it does it it around .1-.2!

maybe my 0-60 went from 7.1 to 7.0 or 6.9! i hope it improves that much! dsg gys might see it go from 6.8 to 6.6!

I'm thinking any real difference will show up sharply on an accelerometer like a G-Tech or Escort G-Timer. You'd be looking for a dyno graph to move to the left, maybe, whereas an accelerometer would show shorter 0-60 times.

That is, if this pipe does anything. :poke:

God damb!
Prove what?? slightly improved throttle response???
What do you expect to get for a DIY $70 mod?

JUST DON'T DO IT... Nobody cares if you don't want to do it.

You go get a mod for under $150 that increases throttle response and then
prove it to us with a 'Escort G-timer'.

What argument? I'm asking for someone to back up the repeat statements with some evidence other than what their ass has to say. If it works, then show me. Or quit saying it works. It's not whether I'll buy it or not because I've already said I'll buy it if it actually does.

And fwiw, I have a friggin G-Timer.

Oh by the way... the G-Timer is not very accurate.....

you cant just assume something will plug it up. it is a pressurized pipe that if not sealed correctly will make your car run like shit.

i experienced this this past weekend when installing my EVOMS, we removed the pipe and put it back after installation but forgot to put the clamp...

the car ran without ANY power at all, push the accelerator, you were going nowhere. limp mode is where u will be.

if you guys are so desperate to get rid of this pipe, do it the right way.

That happened to me with my Neuspeed. I guess I didn't tighten it all the way and it came off, car almost stalled out on the highway.

If they don't wanna use the audi pipe (cause it has more then doubled in cost...) They can always check with soapy water though. Place soapy water around the mating surfaces of the plug and if there's any air bubbles, try again.
