Radar Detectors just give a false sense of security. When I had mine in my past car, I had then the best rated detector the passport 8500 and I was getting careless thinking that stupd thing was going to save me. Well I found out it doesn't see around moutains very good and got nailed doing 85 in a 65. Yeah that cost me about $400 THEN. would be more now.

I like that Trapster App, thats pretty cool..does it link to your GPS and go through your BT so it will prompt you? Or do you have to drive and look at the cell and update it? That would be hazardous.

And what happend to people doing the "flash" thing with the headlights? Now a days you do that and they pull a gun on you!! Frickin crazy fools out there.

Jeff

People still do that in europe, just not here in the us...people are weird as fuck here

Social GPS

You can link your facebook and what not, but I just went with email registration. Social aspect for me is just the reporting.

Even builds in a little gamification where you can unlock achievements.

There's also Escort Live which is free. It links to people who have escort detectors and puts a blip when they catch a laser signal, plus people who put the info in manually. Nice thing about it is that it goes nicely through my Pioneer screen, so on longer trips I just plug it in, stream audio and watch the blips come at me on the map.

My radar detector has saved me countless times. But I also don't rely just on that. I keep me eyes peeled and am scanning all the time when I drive.

Instant on can nail you but I have also detected that instant on when he shot the car ahead of me. You just have to be paying attention. Here in Utah most Highway patrol leave radar on all the time when looking for speeders so they are easy to detect.

But again, and as others have mentioned, you can't feel like you are uncatchable or you WILL get nailed. you need to look at them as added protection, not foolproof protection.

This story from last year(on the Trapter app) but talks about headlight flashing warning for speed traps says it is not illegal in CA and that the highway patrol supports it. Achieves the same effect of causing drivers to notice their speed and slow down.

No, that's not what that article is saying.

Nowhere does it state that flashing your headlights is legal in CA. It is saying that the CHP wants you to slow down and may let the headlight flashing slide, but they can still give you a ticket because warning oncoming motorists of the presence of a police vehicle is not a permitted use of the headlights under the California Vehicle Code:

(3) To warn other motorists of accidents or hazards on a roadway, turn signal lamps may be flashed

So they're saying you can use your hazard lights.

And yes, speed traps are a hazard as they cause a sudden shift in traffic flow.
