Who knows dude you din't get a ticket.. move on. I seriously doubt anyone will ding you for the tails, they look factory.

besides you can go to traffic school and it doesn't hit your insurance.

Not true. Traffic school just reduces the points as far as suspensions and penalties go but insurances companies keep track of that regardless.

I-5 I was heading to Davis.

Nice. Stick to the flow of traffic, don't be the a$$hole who weaves in and out of lanes to save 5 minutes of driving time .. you'll be fine. Good friend of mine is a CHP and drives a 1000HP Supra and a big time car fanatic. As long as you're not driving like a complete idiot (over 90 on busy freeway ) or being a smart ass when he pulls you over, he'll let you go with a warning. Oh and he tends to laugh at or give tickets to anyone with radars. Our area is mostly lidar now anyways so I dropped the radar detector idea. Maybe just grab a cheap one for the longer road trips to LA second hand.

Yeah radar detectors stopped being so useful years ago now. But things like the Waze and Trapster phone apps are good replacements. Modern spin on the old flashing of the headlights.

I took my detector down after I got flashed by him. For almost a year I had its only been good for detecting grocery store doors.

haha. well mine works. and has saved me from quite a few tickets.

I think the chp around here is more sneaky. They would probably use laser or pop if they really wanted to catch someone.

Radar detectors detect lidar, which is police radar. This post is fail. my Escort Passport picks up every cop shooting radar I have come across, and almost 1/4-1/2 mile out. And if cops are using pop, you're either the only one on the road speeding, or get unlucky. If he's popping, radar should pick it up anyway.

And I'm pretty sure a cop driving a 1000hp supra is violating many of the laws they have to protect i.e. all the illegal aftermarket shit on the car.

CHP uses laser in the cities, especially bike cops, but most of their vehicles use Stalker Pro Dual Ka band radar. In my experience they don't use POP much but the Stalker is capable.

Where did this happen? I'm unaware of CHP using Fusions for cruisers...they use mostly Crown Vics, BMW 1200RT bikes, and in NorCal they have some newer Ford pickups. I'm pretty sure their new batches of vehicles will be the Edge for officers, and the Explorer for supervisors. Its possible that whoever stopped you was either a city cop or perhaps county, most likely outside his jurisdiction. He could also have been a reserve cop or someone who for some other reason is permitted to have lights in his vehicle.

And before everyone gets out of hand, laser guns are NOT LIDAR. LIDAR uses a spinning laser head to generate a point map of surroundings; Google's self driving cars use it. Laser guns as used by law enforcement are simply point and shoot devices with a telescopic sight and decoder hardware to estimate speed based off changes in distance to target vs time. A skilled officer can get your speed with a laser gun without you ever knowing he was there. A cop can also hold his POP radar in standby and light you up as you go by; again you may never know he's there until its too late. If there isn't much traffic on the road, or he holds it in Standby for a long enough time, your detector will never get a signal until he blasts you.

:eek:fftopic:

Radar Detectors just give a false sense of security. When I had mine in my past car, I had then the best rated detector the passport 8500 and I was getting careless thinking that stupd thing was going to save me. Well I found out it doesn't see around moutains very good and got nailed doing 85 in a 65. Yeah that cost me about $400 THEN. would be more now.

I like that Trapster App, thats pretty cool..does it link to your GPS and go through your BT so it will prompt you? Or do you have to drive and look at the cell and update it? That would be hazardous.

And what happend to people doing the "flash" thing with the headlights? Now a days you do that and they pull a gun on you!! Frickin crazy fools out there.

The passport 8500 can pick light up like 1/2 mile down the road

Once laser touches you that's it. Unless you have a jammer having radar detection for laser is pointless IMHO.

With Instant On your screwed and CHP use instant on. No Matter what detector you have, you are screwed with Instant on.

Unless you live in Dog patch somewhere, most California agencies all use Instant on.

The detectors give a false sense of security, and if and I say IF by chance you catch a stray Instant on and your detector picked it up? Consider yourself lucky.
