purchased Head Up Display, Defi-Link VSD-X http://www.nippon-seiki.co.jp/defishop/product/vsdx/vsdx_top.html , but failed to install it on my 06' GTI.

I need to tap onto Speed and RPM signal, but it can not be found. :iono:
First, I try to tap it from behind the instrumental panel, but unlike ordinary car mechanism, various signals are mixed and going through a single wire.

Can someone please tell me where to tap SPEED and RPM signals?

It would be best to know ECU wire layout, but I don't mind if someone can point me where to tap them.

As seen below, one shop was able to install it w/o additional peripherals. I asked them where to tap it, f'kers refused to help.

Some MY2006 MKV have the Speed signal only available as CAN bus messages. The RPM signal is also a CAN bus message...

For Speed signal (VSS) at least you can use this module: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=127C2RVW&tp=3486&tab=detailed_info

Are you saying that 06' GTI signal layout is different than 07' and 08'?
It seems like people who are using this were able to tap Speed signal (VSS) from back of the instrument cluster and RPm signal from the coil. :frown:

You should be able to get an rpm signal from the same spot the dyno does. Check the wiring harness for the coils. There is a 90 degree plastic angle piece over the wires on the driver side of the engine. Unclip the plastic piece and look for a thick solid red wire. That is the rpm line. (Check near the red circle).

Just remember that what I say has no warranty, LOL. The ignition system deals with some pretty high voltages and amperage. I would assume that the defi control module has the proper electrical protection just incase, but I dunno. I have no clue what the voltage or amperage is put out by that red wire. Maybe an email to dynojet or somebody would know.

As for the speed, I got no clue dude :(

Yes, they are... my MY2007 GTI doesn't have any VSS signal wire anymore behind the instrument panel as the MY2006 GTI did. Some late production MY2006 started this change.

weird... I know one 07' and one 08' GTI were able to tap VSS signal from the back of instrumental cluster. :iono:
