Car starting problems

I've done a search, but couldn't find another thread with a similar problem.

Last night, I went to start the car, and it wouldn't. The letters on the MFD, eg: D P R N etc were flashing. After a minute or so, the car did start, but then the check exhaust light came up on the dash, and has remained there.

Is this something that the dealer is going to try and fleece me for?

Car: Mk V GTI with DSG.

Then I wouldn't worry. Just call VW assist - they will advise and organise it with the dealer for you.

I had a check exhaust light come on my GT as well. Turned out to be an easy fix - the sensor was defective (apparently a common issue). VW replaced it under warranty. I'm not saying that you have the same issue though.

Depends if you caused the fault or not.

Have you checked the battery? It has an indicator on top to give you an idea of the condition in one cell. Check the voltages as well.

Could well be a faulty O2 sensor near the cat as this has happened to a few people before. Lines up with the exhaust fault light i guess.
