Which tires for 8" wide wheels.

I think 215/40 is good for a moderate drop (2") with a not too aggressive offset. I am running 215's on an 18x8 et43 and i think it looks good. If i were to drop another inch i *might* consider a 205 if i was getting spacers, otherwise it would look weird.

I think those particular wheels would look better with more sidewall. I'd go with the beefier tire, otherwise the wheels and tires are going to look tiny on that large-ish car.

I think right now I have a 225/40 in there. And I just keep thinking it looks huge. I'm gonna see if they have either in stock.

That thread is a great resource but not really applicable to what the OP needs. His tire choices are going to fit; he's looking for opinions on which size will look the best. Besides, that fitment guide is for the mkv, and OP is asking for fitment advice for his b5.5 passat.
