My Rabbit was throwing a P0420 and I brought it in for service. They replaced the "Insert Valve". What is that?

I did a whole lot of searching before posting, and found nothing. I guess nobody has ever heard of it.

I knew it. I knew it was either for blinker fluid, halogen fluid, or muffler bearings.

P0420 is a catalyst code. Typically thrown when there is a below efficeincy code thrown.

My guess is an "insert valve" is a generic line item for a miscelanous part to be replaced. Kind of like an "any key" There may be a technical name for the insert valve but I cant imagine what it would be.

Hope that helps.

Ah. The guy who wrote the invoice wrote it wrong. I emailed to ask what it was and they said it's the "inlet valve".

Dealer said:
The inlet valve is a electronic check valve for the secondary air system.

It will open when the secondary air pump is blowing air into the cylinder head to assist in igniting unburned fuel.

It will close when the secondary air pump is off. When closed it prevents exhaust gasses/fumes from blowing back into the secondary air system.
