Yeah, I'd be curious to know this as well. I thought those covers were pretty flimsy. Figured you'd wear a hole in the cover before the belt broke. Good luck. Hope everything works out in your favor. Great chance to build some internals up and prep for big turbo haha.

Why would the timing belt be rubbing against the cover? I know someone who had a car that did this.

We had it changed late May. However July through August we were on vacation, and the car was left with a family friend who maintained it in those months. The guy was independent too.

No, he would just start it up every morning for a bit.
Those covers are a pain to get back on properly. Mines barely on because of my IE valve cover which is why I may just leave it off. But mine was digging into the cover from the get go for 8k miles on a brand new motor. When i pulled my cover off it was chewed. So the belt hitting the cover doesnt seem like the failure point
