Is that why Las Vegas is one of the hardest hit cities in the US right now? City Center was on the verge of collapse and every hotel in Vegas is taking a massive hit on room rates.
I think vegas is a little different.
I work for a government run and regulated casino, there are only a few "private" casinos where I live. Even those that are privately run are still in part owned by the company I work for, and are regulated as such.
Also, Vegas is a tourist city. Casinos and hotels are being hit hard because they have come to depend on the tourist income. People aren't travelling these days because money is tight(er), so they don't see that money anymore. However, I bet you anyone local to Vegas is still gambling away. The casinos where I live don't depend on tourist income (except for the border sites), so revenue has remained relatively constant throughout this economic downturn.
