i did an auto scan with VCDS tonight.

as suspected the paddle shift button for the up shift has thrown a fault code.
it works sometimes and not others.

the fault code is as follows.

01748 - Switch for Tiptronic in Steering Wheel (E438); Up
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

what i need to know is, the part number for the up shift switch.
i obviously don't need the entire paddle, just the internal switch mechanism.

im hoping that they have individual part numbers.
i cant just go to my local dealer and ask them to look up the VIN,
as the paddle shift wheel was a retrofit.

can anyone help ?

Jason.

Jason.

i don't know i haven't really poked around there too much, but i've seen alot of people use those drawings. maybe if you find the drawings, you could post a pic of the part you need the # of?

that's what im trying to do.

i need to confirm that the part i need is available without buying the entire paddle (or worse the entire wheel)

then once i have a part number i can go hit the dealer up for a price.
i can install the switch myself easily enough. i just need the switch itself.

edit:

after searching the web, i have found wwhat i think is the part number for what i need.

1k0-951-528-B-REH but, there was no picture with the part number,
so i don't know for sure, and i have no idea how much it's likely to cost.

1K0 951 527 B REH - push button for tiptronic black/white left hand side - ~$120

1K0 951 528 B REH - push button for tiptronic black/white right hand side - ~$120

These are for cars from 05/07 - 11/08 and it's the switch with the paddle attached. The part numbers show up the same for 05/05 to 07/07 as well.

Hi,

I searched for that part number to locate the steering wheel area and have come up with this.

It appears that they don't break down that part any further and you are looking at a new paddle.

See attached screen cap. from ecs you are looking at $92.35 usd or probably closer to $175 from the stealer.

Boobs.

Thanks for the info guys.

There seems to be a fairly big difference
In the prices from both of you.

Guess I'll find out who's closest on Monday when
I can ask the dealer to price one up.

Is the black/white referring to black paddle with white writing on it ?

Thanks again.

Yes that's correct, you can't buy just the part number listed but you need the colour code on the line below to add on. For some products they come in multiple trim colours so will have them listed, ie you might have brown and white paddles.

I worked my prices off tripling the pound price which is about right for this sort of product in Australia (we'll see!).

My price was just a guess at how much the local stealer will gouge you for it hehe.

Mav is probably more correct.

update:

Denlo wanted...... wait for it........

$246 !!!!! WTF ? :yikes:

i ended up ordering it from ECS.it was $135 AU with express international shipping.

didn't go with TMTuning, just due to shipping times and costs.
TMTuning regular freight usually takes like 3-4 weeks to show up. and their express shipping was like $80 US !

thanks again for the assist guys.

appreciated.
