lomax

Ready to race!
I am helping my mate to fit his coilovers tomorrow, i am trying to find a guide on how to do it. I had one before but lost it.

and what tools i will need.

I had mine fitted at a garage, so never did my own.

Cheers Lomax

Tools Needed:
Part MNXZ14 - 14 mm 12 Point Driver (Metalnerd site)
Part MN3424 - Strut Spreader Bit (Metalnerd site)
3/8" Socket Wrench
1/2" Socket Wrench
1/2" Impact gun (or breaker bar, but the gun is so much quicker)
10mm 6pt socket
13mm 6 pt socket
16mm 6 pt socket
16mm 6 pt extended socket
17mm 6 pt socket
18mm 6 pt socket
18mm 6 pt extended socket
21mm 6 pt socket
22mm 6 pt socket
27mm 6 pt socket (for axle bolt)
Assorted open ended wrenches
Torque Wrench
Strut Spring Compressor (you can get this on loan from auto stores such as Advanced Auto Parts etc...)
(Thanks to SpeeDemon on MFG for the above info)

Be sure to replace the 27mm axle bolts, and the 14mm triple square strut bolt and nut. www.ecstuning.com sells a kit with these in it. Be sure to torque everything to spec as well. Be very patient, and have fun. Let me know how it goes.

I just did mine last weekend, so if you have any questions, just let me know.

Wow that's a lot of shit. I would much rather give it to a pro.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you'll need a spring compressor to install coilovers. The spring compressor is used when you're installing aftermarket springs on the stock shock absorber.

You'll need the spring compressor to get the strut bearing off the OEM strut assembly.

Didn't need a spring compressor. Take the top nut off with an impact wrench. It won't shoot the spring cap off (seriously), and to put a shorter spring on a stock strut, you definately won't need it. Let the spring tension be your friend. As for the strut bearing, I have no idea. I went with VW euro springs, and it's all the drop I wanted.
