So I am soon to fit some parts I just purchased.
I am taking the gti to volkspower to fit a 2nd hand APR I bought with a flash to stage 2 & also fitting a new set of coilovers.

Now I also bought a set of new south gauges (boost/oil pressure and volt) should a mechanic be able to fit that? Or should I be taking it somewhere like a autobahn where they would be fitting that sort of stuff more often?

Just trying to avoid a hack job..
I wish I could do it myself but everytime I try a DIY I somehow manage to screw up lol.

Have a crack yourself James. Take your time, these things are made to DIY. You can never really trust anyone to take more care of your car than you!

Craig, about a year ago I tried changing my footwell lights... To this day they still don't work lol.
I defiantly need someone with abit of experience to do it for me.

Dude, any pic of how they look like or where u plan to mount it? I was thinking about fitting one along time ago (i'm thinking more like Defi gauges)...but didn't hear much about people mounting it in a Dub. I would recommend paying someone to get it fix though..preferably a VW specialist? :iono:

its really not hard mate.. there is some really good DIYs on here that i followed with a friend.. i have no idea on electrics but we got it in.. it did take us like 6 hours with lots of cig brakes but it aint hard..i jst took a snap now for u with the illumination.
one thing i will say is the fitment of the gauge pod is not great. lots of 3m double sided tape to hold it in flush with no squeaks.. i was shocked they didnt use any type of screw to hold it in..but it works and i am happy.. i feel it passes to be oem looking.
here is the DIY I used for the boost gauge and there others are there, just need to search.

Offering $100 for someone in Melbourne to help me with the gauges. I think that's a fair price. Let me know if anyone with experience fitting gauges is willing to help. Cheers guys

Wow...Nice job, although I don't think I can pull this off myself. I will still pay someone to help me fit..just in case i mess up big time! Hmm is NewSouth the recommended brand for a Dub?

Since I may only want a Boost gauge, im thinking of placing it on the small flat space between the console and A Pillar. That way the middle vent stays in place...

What about other makes like Defi, HKS or Apexi? I most probably just want a Boost and maybe a Exhaust temp at the most to look at ..LoL

I made my decision on new south because they have the same lighting theme as oem, and the location to me looks closest to oem. I'm sure they all do the same thing at the end of the day so you can't go wrong!

There are plenty of options for gauge brand and placement. OSIR offer some nice products as far as gauge "cups" are concerned. And the DEFI gauges, although pricey, are a nice unit. Just depends on where you want to place the gauge, the type of gauge (electrical or mechanical) and how close to OEM you want it to look. Don't forget, most of your options for a gauge holder will come from overseas, so start looking through some of the UK and US forums.

jsof, when you come down to do the open fog grille install, i can give you a hand removing the dash, i know volkspower wanted to charge me $150 just for the centre console removal.

removal took me about 30 minutes while watching youtube with my gf's boost juice membership card! haha

like craig said, theres heaps of diy's out there, even if you simply run all the wiring through the back of the dash and get an auto electrician to hook it up, it'd be better than letting someone who doesn't know how the dash comes apart, start tugging of bits of trim!

Thanks mate, I'll let you know as I dont have the gauges yet, hopefully I get them by then though.

I had spoken to volkspower and they couldn't put a price on it, just said a couple hours. Might be a good idea to run the wires and then let them just wire It up. I'll let you know!
