Well, after much much much waiting and patience, I finally have my new headunit, subwoofer, and amplifier installed. MASSIVE props to Nik over at UberStealth for the incredible box. This is a thing of beauty, built with passion. The box is bulletproof. Well built, well engineered. Fits in like no-ones business, without any hassle of bolts or anything. Just fits snug inside and does not move. Holds the bass really well and allows the sub to punch like Mike Tyson is sitting in your hatch.

Now to the story, just to entertain.

Bought a Pioneer 8500BHS from Amazon. Got it in a few days, soldered the wiring harness complete with MicroBypass and steering wheel adapter. Plugged it in and it was DOA. Pioneer recommended a local shop to fix it. (Should have sent it back :bonk:
After about a month, 3 new circuit boards from Japan, and many phone calls, Pioneer sent a new model 4000NEX to the shop for me to pickup.

In the meantime, I had ordered a box through Nik at UberStealth, one of the recommended 10" Pioneer shallow mount subs, and a Pioneer amplifier. They all came in within a week of each other. So I took off on a Friday, and spent both Friday and Saturday playing with the setup.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the setup. The subwoofer sounds magnificent, the box is the absolute bees knees, and the amplifier is small and clean. And the headunit. What a dream. Not only does it do SD cards, and DVDs, but the built in bluetooth is pretty cool. Not to mention, since I have a Nexus4, I used the rear HDMI port on the HU to run to my phone. With the help of a little app on the internets, I can now use my phone on the HU screen. Fun stuff.

Again, big thanks to Nik and the March Madness sale. If you have been on the fence about getting one, do it. Incredible build quality, great sound, great design. 2nd to none!

And now for the pictures! Will try and add more later.
(Yes, I am aware that the wiring needs to be cleaned, but I got too excited playing with it )

I also got one of these and went with the pioneer speaker! it's great so far. I put the pioneer grill on and i had to dremel a half inch or so off the side of the grill so it would fit but other than that it was smooth sailing.

K3v0: thank you sir! I was considering getting one, but I'm kinda liking the stock look. I'm a tad bit frugal and $20 to have to hack on it is a bit meh..

Nik: no worries at all sir. I know I probably bugged you pretty well with emails, but I cannot put enough good words into your product. I remember opening it and kinda expecting something made of old PizzaHut boxes and wood glue. I was blown away with the quality, even in the care of packaging it up. Just overall well done.

how much did it all cost?

Amp was ~$160
Sub $85
Box $200
head unit $460
Wiring kit $15 (for the amp, I already had the can-bus wires)
Dash kit $20

Those are all rounded numbers BTW. And the radio price was for the older model

no problem! 10 minutes with the dremel is all it took to sort everything out. the box sounds great and looks great as well.

Amen! Here are some moar pix to show the rest. What looks like Android running on the screen is actually my phone hooked up through the HDMI in, and a Slimport(also pictured). It gives me full phone functionality through the headunit if I so desire. Really a fun setup!

As a little aside. I read in a few write ups that the Scoshe dash kit was shoddy. This was not my experience. The kit fit fantastic and actually has (for me) a really close to oem fit and finish. Hard to tell its not stock unless it is all shined up or in bright light. Just my .02
