I haven’t sailed in 20yrs and took a resort Hobie Cat (14’ Wave) out for a few hours and started to miss it.

My 8yo is starting to gain interest so I figured I’d pick up something small we could use on the local lakes.

going tomorrow to check out a 1976 AMF Sunfish with trailer for $800.

Our house is close enough to the ocean where we have to carry flood insurance. When we bought our house, my wife goes "We should buy a boat!!"

My answer was "Absolutely fucking not!"

“A boat is nothing more than a hole in the water. A hole into which you throw money. The larger the boat, the larger the hole, and the larger the amount of money you will throw into it. Spend your money on a case of beer, find a friend with a boat, use their boat, give them the case of beer.”

The first time that we went to go kayaking, they were out of single person kayaks. They said they could put the three of us (me, lady phur, and our then 11ish year old son) in a canoe together. Lady phur said, “Yeah. That’s fine.“
I already knew what was coming. “I am going to end up getting blamed for absolutely everything that the canoe is doing that you disapprove of. Nothing about this sounds fun.”
100% called it.
