The new grille looks fantastic! Love when I see this thread bumped by you, it usually means you have some awesome updates.

Removed some OEM stripes

Took the golf out for a spin

And then saw old photos of my other Audi, and though hmmm nice wheels

So I thought let's make a fitment test

Out with the oem one

Threw them on for good measurement

I love it

Now as for the test-fitment.
These wheels are 9,5x18 ET38 . I could not bolt them down to put car to the ground due to 5x112 vs 5x100 different bolt pattern.
Thing is, that in order to have the concave I need to go for the same sizes again.

BUT, the wheel, on the inner side, does not clear the shock absorber, nor the caliper.
So I guess if I am to go for it, I might have to go with a 5mm spacer in order to make it work.
And then, surely go for a fender roller in order to pull fenders properly. I dont mind the car being new, I want it to make happen, and I believe I can :)

Any feedback, welcome as always

Cheers

Mike

So today I had a day off, from work, and thought, why not.
Why not upgrade my exhaust system I mean. LoL.

Put the car on the ramp

So the OEM A1 1.6 TDi system, has no middle resonator as you can see.
At first I was to change only the backbox, but then, I thought, F*ck it, I will go cat-back exhaust. OEM piping size is about 50mm (about 2inch).

I thought we should go 63mm (2,5inch) but then I said again, F*ck it, let's go 76mm (3inch), cause who knows what engine this chassis might end up carrying in the future, LoL.

So then, that was decided, transition from OEM one to the new one, under the driver's seat, and then, in the future, do the front section as well.
While we cut the piping there, I thought, let's do a sound test just for fun.
And then, was the time I lost my smile, LoL.

I mean, seriously, ZERO DIFFERENCE, whatsoever, from oem condition.
Yeah, no sound gains if you dont remove the front section I guess. I mean I am new to TDi world, but seriously, WTF ?

Nevermind I thought, I would continue with the fabrication of the exhaust, make it proper, and look nice, and in the future, exhaust will be completed sometime I guess.

First we had to make the transition from one to another

With some love, it happened, and then tig-welded

I would also use one v-band connection to remove the backbox when and if needed for cleaning etc etc

My Russian welder took in charge

Fittings made

Backbox almost ready

V-Band will go there nicely

Placement on car

In situ

Artsy shot

This was while test-fitting the pipes

And some final shots with everything in place

First from underneath

And then from the back

I love how it came out, and it is exactly what I was going for :)

Hope you liked it too

Cheers everyone

Thank you. :)

Like I said, sadly, almost exactly the same as OEM, which is quiet :(
That stupid DPF does all the harm in sound effects :(

Makes me wanna cry

You need to replace the muffler by an after market one, and start doing some research to know which engine can fit in the bay

Havent you seen the photos ?
Or read the words ? :paddle:

It is a brand new custom cat-back exhaust. :)

Loving the exhaust work. It's nice to see the exhaust cutout in the bumper nice and full now.
I like the raw pipe look for the tips, but have you thought about putting some polished tips on there?

Yeah, I have.
But I dont dig the chrome look on this kind of tips to be honest.
Plus, after I install the wheels, the OEM+ look of those wheels will be long gone, so these raw tips will blend in perfectly with them huge-in-your-face-wheels.

I kinda like the raw tips. I never really thought of it as an option. This would definitely lower the cost of my suitcase muffler delete on my GTI. Great work so far!

Thank you.
Only other option for me is to paint them wrinkle/high temp black :headbang:

So. Some more news.

Ordered these from Rota Wheels UK, that hooked me up with an awesome deal

Will try to run them with some 225.40.18s, and see where we go from there.

Also ordered these

Oh my dear fenders, we are gonna have a great time, LoL
