Check all your connectors for looseness. Check all the wiring for any chaffed wires. It being an intermittent fault, I would venture to guess its a connector issue somewhere.

Solder is always the better way.

Solder is always the better way.

As per vw, it is not.

Their reasoning is we can do crimp connections fairly consistently while a soldered joint can have many failure points. We arent taught how to solder.

Also with the airbag system, for this main recall (not tsb, it was a service action 97u3) The issue was high resistance due to the connector, eliminating the connector and added butt connections. Soldering the joint could add more resistance to the circuit.

Any wire repair i do must be like factory, i cannot add length, i must adhere to what the factory intended. I just re read the work details, multiple warnings that wiring repair must be performed correctly due to unintended airbag deployment.

I had the TSB done about 4 years ago. Light came back on a year after. After many many trips to the dealer, they ultimately told me I needed a new airbag and refused to do anything else since I was out of warranty. Was on for about 2 years before I got tired of looking at it. About 3 months ago I took the seat out, cut the crimp connectors out, and soldered the wires together as clean and neatly as I knew how. Been soldering things for a long time now. This repair cleared the light and it hasn't returned. If done properly, a solder joint is far better than any crimped connection. I will agree however, that if done improperly it could cause more issues that it resolves.
