Do you shoot in manual mode? I'm sure most of us will agree that out of say 100 pictures you take, only half of them, if that, will turn out good. Obviously better glass, a steady hand and/or tripod will help reduce that percentage, but the A350 I'm sure is not a bad camera.
I shot thousands of pictures with my dad's Sony A100 using the standard Sony kit lens and a few of his Minolta 35mm lenses. While it didn't do the best at night because turning up the ISO resulted in a lot of grain, I made do with it. I've now got a T3i, but I learned a lot with the Sony.
