i went with manual, its just so much fun. But if i had to get a car that was auto, i would definitely go with the DSG.

I have a DSG, and of course I would go back to a 6spd. I love my DSG to death. However, there aren't any cars besides it that have good auto-trannies. At all. Period. And such.

So, yeah, unless they release the DSG on more Audis, or sell the technology, it's not worth getting any other automatic. As long as I have the GTI, I'll love my DSG, but it's the only automatic I'm gonna drive, at least until I've got arthritis in the knee. =P

Trust me we are working on that : )

Getrag has purchased the Technology from us and supposedly has a couple applications that are supposed to go online in 2007, however Im not exactly sure who they are going to be for. Getrag makes transmissions for quite a few companies including BMW/Mini, Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford.

Quote from Sept 2005 Press Release....

"AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Two Getrag transmissions on display at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show this week use BorgWarner's fuel-efficient DualTronic™ wet dual-clutch module technology. The programs will start production in 2007 and are for vehicle types that range from compact and mid-sized to luxury passenger cars and sport-utility vehicles.

Total BorgWarner DualTronic™ technology programs announced to date represent about 1.5 million transmissions per year at full production volumes. The company expects the demand for this type of technology to grow to 20 percent of the European passenger car market by 2015.

DualTronic™ technology is currently available on a range of VW and Audi vehicles, including the VW Golf R32; the Audi TT; the diesel and turbocharged direct-injected gasoline engine versions of the VW Golf; the VW Touran; the VW Passat; the VW Jetta; the Audi A3 Sportback; the Skoda Octavia; and the Seat Altea, Toledo and Leon.

I believe there is a 3rd European MFG'r that is supposed to come online in 2007 with dual clutch gearboxes, but again..they are all keeping tight lipped as to who they actually are.

I have neard rumblings that DaimlerChrysler NA was also considering switching all of thier current Automatic Transmissions to Dual Clutch technology.

EDIT

one of the Getrag transmissions is for Ford-Europe. Ford is calling thier version of the transmission "Powershift"

I doubt anyone actually has an actual # answer to this but how much HP's do you all think DSG can deal with? Wonder how much DSG cars can be modded.
you can get up to 312 ps with decreased torque....The (problem) with the dsg is not the hp but the torque tha the transmision cant handle!!!
My personal opinion is that 300 hp is very good for me!!!!

This 3rd Manufacturer should be Porsche. I have heard tell that the Tiptronic-S found in the new 997 Turbo is based on DSG technology. Don't know 100% for sure if that's it though, but I do know that Porsche will be introducing DSG on the Turbo.

personally i believe that DSG is a lot better and its more fun to drive. However, you have to test drive both of them. To have a manual in US is a suicide for a transmission. If you want to play you can always swich to either sport or tipronic and it is a loooooooooot of fun!

just wondering why its suicide to have a proper manual in the US, because i havnt died yet...

For the thread starter: just test drive both the 6M and the DSG. I was impressed with the DSG but ultimatly i found the 6M to be much more fun.

I ended up with the manual for a few reasons.

1. No offense to you DSG owners meant here but to me the DSG is just a automatic with a few gadgets. I've never liked auto's and don't see that changing anytime soon.

2. I've never owned a 6 speed and I feel that I made the right choice after all the driving I've done.

I have a 6 speed. I personally think it's more fun to drive. Downshifting, chirping tires, clutch. My left leg would get so bored...it depends if you have a morning commute full of traffic or if you just love to drive. I'm of the latter. If you plan on tracking at a very serious level, I imagine DSG will yield quicker lap times..
