Water leaking into boot

I took my MK7 in for service and found a ton of water in the boot almost filling up the spare tire. Dealer is quoting $849 for a silicone reseal. Is this reasonable?

Well, reasonable is really up to you. $849 is about 4-5 hours of work in my area. There are a lot of fairly common spots that leak (hatch seals, hinges, tail lamp seals, sunroof drain, pressure vents, etc.) and it's pretty time consuming to remove all the interior panels and bumper to access everything, re-seal and then put everything back together.

If you feel like it's something you want to tackle yourself, I would read through these threads.

If you aren't going to do it yourself, then at least ask the dealer which areas they are actually going to re-seal for that price. Just the entry points on the hatch? Or are they including the pressure vents, sunroof drains and other common areas?

Not sure if you have fixed this now but I noticed last year I also had standing water in the well for the spare tyre, I looked online and found that theres a rubber bung under the car near one of the rear wheels and if you push this in you will see lots of water spill out on to the road, when I did this it fixed the problem for me, was a while a go so can't remember the details but some blockage occurs and then water ends up diverted to the boot well, lots of videos on YouTube on how to do it and it's really simple, worth trying before paying for anything at least
