mines got a series one autologic ecu program upgrade , I used to do many miles and love the acceleration...
am more used to 4x4s and what to do next, what is a logical path for performance increases after that, or is it better to upgrade suspension as I move forward..
I was told not to put a performance filter in a golf as there can be issues with the engine management, was told this by a mechanic but not sure if it is bs or not..

It's BS. A performance filter will help, most intakes will be an upgrade. There are many routes you can take, I upgraded the subframe mount and front control arm bushes.

I would say a few good things to do performance wise are:
-tune
-downpipe (with or without catback exhaust)
-intake

Suspension mods, a few good ideas would be:
-sway bars
-upgraded poly bushings
-coilovers or sport springs/shocks

The Mk5 platform really has a LOT of options for upgrades if you shop around on parts sites. You can go from mild to wild....it's really as hardcore as you wanna go.
