This doesn't happen.A nuclear attack gets nuclear response. A chemical/biological attack gets a chemical/biological response.

Lets hope that does not happen, nobody wants WWIII and that is exactly how it could start. We have reached a point in the world where nuclear powers cannot engage eachother in warfare without risking literally everything. If Russia triggers Art 5 they most certainly will.

Right. So you have the Saudis, that are in bed with the Russians, where ya'll gonna get your oil from? Fracking? The Canadian oil sands? Two way street. You impose sanctions but you also feel the pain. Many people believe "sanctions" are just weak empty threats, they are not. It is a general term for an almost unlimited list of actions that could be taken to literally ruin Russia. It may not change Putin's course but it can burn down his country around him. Sanctions can starve them out financially, technically and even literally. It will however take time for them to work. We are talking months and years, not weeks.
However, because Russia is the number 2 producer of oil in the world, the west will also feel the pain if they stop buying that oil which is Russias source of income. There is certainly more to the subject but you can see why the sanctions such as removing them from the banking system which would keep them from getting paid for their oil (stopping sales) needs to be implemented AFTER alternate oil sources or plans are in place. That of course is a big deal for EU especially since they use a lot of Russian oil.

Wait that wasn't my understanding of article 5 - I thought it was just war on one is war on all - i think biological weapons are still disallowed/considered war crimes.
I am certainly not calling for WW3, and yes that’s exactly what we’d have if NATO got into this mix. It’s just hard to ignore the parallels between this invasion and, say,
don't forget natural gas. Europe gets the bulk of its natural gas from Russia, very recently Russia had Europe by the balls when they squeezed their gas pipelines. Many people believe "sanctions" are just weak empty threats, they are not. Sanctions will have some effect, but it will be limited. Remember the world's largest single economy, China, is looking at this situation very differently from a geo-political standpoint. And they've still got one eye on Taiwan. Remember John Cena's pathetic apology because he called Taiwan a country? They're serious about it and waiting to see how the west will respond to Ukraine.
And force Germany to turn their nuke plants back on? Nein!Maybe it’s time the world embargoes them back to the Stone Age?
Completely agree, this is a test to see what the free world does and what the consequences will be for Putin and other autocrats who wish to consume other countries.don't forget natural gas. Nothing meaningful.Completely agree, this is a test to see what the free world does and what the consequences will be for Putin and other autocrats.
