I wonder why they didn't use Launch Control. 0-60 in 6.2 seconds is weak. Every other independent test achieved ~5.5 seconds.

LOL you R32 guys always claim straight line speed isn't that important yet anytime somebody doesn't get a 5.5 second 0-60 you get your panties in a bunch (this is a road course test after all, if straight line isn't important why even discuss the irrelevant 0-60 times). Of all straight line things not important its 0-60 (if nothing more than few people race to only 60mph or do drag strip launches much less racing from a stand still) but you guys need to stop acting like you dont care when you know you do deep down inside.

your "every other independent test..." achieving 5.5 seconds is far from true (quite the contrary, I could only find ONE from the MAJOR sources):

motortrend 5.8 seconds
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/112_0608_2008_volkswagen_r32/performance.html

car and driver 5.4 seconds (the only one I've found that fast. they also have their GTI at 6.0 seconds which is faster than anybody else)

automobile 6.2 seconds

motorweek 6.2 seconds

On the other hand comparing the mazdaspeed 3 using the same sources I dont think there is anything for you to complain about.

motor trend 5.6 seconds

car and driver 5.8 seconds

automobile 6.0 seconds

motorweek 6.4 seconds (yeah right)

edmunds 5.9 seconds

i like the way they introduced the gti at the end...
seriously, vw needs to put more power in the R, after all, thats meant to be the beast of the Golf platform...

R32 vs. MS6 would have been a logical showdown... althought the MS6 would just about own the R in every way. not tomention that I have buddies that run high 12's with just bolt ons.

it would only be fair if the R had a turbo..

it would just be fair if the MS3 had AWD. Its not a good comparisson the MS6 is closer its only rated 22hp at the crank more and suffers from greater drivetrain loss but still outperforms it. Its not as civilized with the power band and what not.

If this race was started from a stop with launch control getting a sub 6 second 0-60 then that would of won the race. Maybe it started from roll:iono:

if i hear 1 more thing about launch control, i would kill somebody:mad0259:
the mazda is a sub 6 second car as well... the the mazda 3 is a better all round performer, plain and simple....
the gti was quicker than the mazda with what i believe 2 b a stage 2 setup (and no lsd), now imagine how fast the mazda would be with its own stage 2 setup....

...and the 3 have 2 more cylinders and awd?

i think the 3.2's horsepower was great when i came out in 2004 but to compete with todays cars it needs to up its power

GTI stg1 with a few bolt ons will beat a ms3 in the 1/4. stg2 I kill my buddies ms3 and hes full bolt on. FMIC,TBE,CAI,BOV, and fuel cut defender. With an ecu tune if it was abvailable as a stand alone system on the car it would kill. sadly all they can do is remove the ecu currently and replace it with a tuned ecu and never have a warranty again which is why most owners will never do it.
