1. Driver knowingly ran over a large piece of metal - driver uninjured.
2. Driver speeding, ran over a raised pedestrian crossing, hit a wall - driver uninjured.

Its not like they are spontaneously combusting and there is loss of life.

This is really not a big deal. Personally, I'd rather have a battery than a giant tank of combustible liquid and vapors if I crash.

Not to mention this is the car that scored higher than any other vehicle tested in US history at crash standards.

Thank you. I share that opinion. Cars catch fire everyday for various reason. There's a lot of energy in both gasoline OR electric vehicle. This create heat.

There's 5 Ferrari 458 Italia that caught in fire because of design flaws. People laugh at it. Ferrari recalls. People forget.

Now, because it is Tesla...

Possibly. They'll probably have to look into the failure mode a little more and understand the capacity.

TL;DR but i am throwing this out there. there was fire but it was contained in the way tesla designed it to be. The owner has said he/she will buy another Tesla.

It is the most highly rated car in regards to safety there is.

as for this case it looks like they hit a tree, probably doing something stupid in which case I still support Tesla for trying to help push along darwinism and getting rid of the overpopulation issue.

Tesla -> hype. The greater the hype the greater the clicks on headlines. It's not interesting to read about all the Corolla fires out there or Ford Explorer frame splits because they're just everyday vehicles.
