Hi All,

I've been on the 'Tex' for a while and thought that I'd introduce myself, I've been lurking a for a little while and was starting to feel a little voyeuristic...and so her I am!!

Bought the Jetta in Feb 06, was one of the first to buy one after waiting for it to be released here. It was a 5 month wait for it though.:frown:

Specs are:
2006 Jetta TDI
Reflex Silver.
Leather.
18" OEM Vision Wheels and Sports Suspension.
Bluetooth.

Mods:
GTI Pedals.
GTI front Splitter.
GLI Sideskirts.

I really regret not optioning the Xenon headlights after seeing them in action, I also think they improve the looks.
After nearly 2 years and 17,000km, all has been great, no major issues apart from a bolt missing from the rear door skin.

Fuel economy is all over the place, partly because of quite a bit of city driving and short journeys, although we got 890km on it's second tank of diesel on a trip to and from Forster.

Here she is:

This is what I had to give up for the nice 'Family Friendly Car'!

I loved the S2, I had it for about 9 years, it's probably one of the most under rated cars ever built. It was a one owner car, when I bought it, always serviced by Porsche. I had to make the decision to sell, because we needed to replace my Wife's aging Corolla, so it was either buy another cheapish family car (about $20k) or sell the Porsche to fund a better one...we chose to do the latter, mainly as it rarely got driven, except on weekends and long trips. The other deciding factor was the birth of our daughter! Kids have a way of changing your priorities!!

welcome to the forum mate!

think she'd mind if you turned it into a Jetta TDI cup car?

THANX!!

Hmmm, sound like a plan!!

I had many plans for this car, a Chip, Coilovers, rear sway bar. But they've all been put on hold after birth of No.2 kiddy! I think we now need a bigger house! THis cars a long term proposition anyway, so they'll be plenty of time!

Welcome aboard JettageV, the car looks great. And as a fellow dad, big congrats on the growing family.

I feel your pain regarding the xenons too. I've played with the idea of upgrading a few times but keep pushing it down on the mod list. I recently replaced my halogen foglights with the projector versions and was extremely happy with the improved output. Now I'm thinking that the xenon-look headlights (also projectors but not HID), from places like TMT, might also offer a valuable improvement over the stock halogens.
A lot cheaper than the xenon versions with the same appearance, and you don't have to worry about those other headaches like auto-levelling and washers.

And you could easily upgrade them to HID in the future if you got the urge... :23:

Hey matey!

Welcome to GolfMKV. Long time no chat

Still like the car you gave up :happyanim:

Has your fuel consumption settled to a respectable level now?

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading the lights to the TMT Xenon look, but can't justify the cost at the moment. They're about $600USD from memory!

Hey Rog,

Fuel consumption is still all over the place, I spoke to the guys at Five Dock, they reckon it's completely normal, we are averaging about 600-650km on a tank, but a trip to Katoomba and back was great, averaged 5.3Lt per 100kms.

How's the GTI going??

How I miss not having Xenons, but I've resigned myself to it, because....

I'm selling my car soon and heading O/S for a few months... (Until the money runs out) Before that, the car was and still is great! Got some new rims for it but am selling those too.

I was up at Katoomba a couple of weeks ago, and I averaged about the same!! :eyebulge: (Dipped down to 4.9l/100kms, but came back up to about 5.4l/100kms for the whole trip)

I've had plenty of years Loving cars, spent pretty much all of my income on them in the past.

This probably belongs in the 'Past loves' thread....

1. 1980 Ford Escort 2.0 Rallypack. Full rally/race spec engine with twin 40mm Dellortos, Mallory twin point ignition, triple core radiator (185 bhp), Cortina disc brake front end, Custom built Disk brake rear, full eight point roll cage, Escort van diff (low ratio 4.11), Tarmac rally suspension by Old Man Emu, which included trailing arm rear end, coilover front, strut brace. It was very quick, it used to embarass a lot of V8s in a striaght line and and destroy anything in the corners, but was a huge money pit, I sunk about $25k into it and sold it for about $5k.

2. Peugeot 205GTi, best car I have ever driven and wish I still had it!

3. Peugeot 405Mi16, was great but seemed a little tame after the 205!

4. Peugeot 306S16, I hoped this would be what I really needed, a small car with a big engine, unforunately it was way too heavy for it's own good.

5. Porsche 944S2, after looking at lot's of 911s over the years, I finally bought a 944, driving it for the first time sold me instantly, it handled better than a 911, had better brakes, and went nearly as quick. A Classic of the future.
