Need new brake pads, have questions!

So a couple days ago my "check Brake Pads" light came on so i decided to start looking for some new ones.

I have the OEM pads + rotors that came stock with the car (I so believe, I bought it at 70k miles so I assume so) I heard stock rotors can be soft and should be replaced with the new brake pads. I have some extra money so I was thinking of getting some slotted rotors, and for their advantages even though I dont street race/track racing.

I have a 2008 vw gti I was looking at these rotors/pads

Stock rotors are usually better quality than most cheap aftermarket brands. A lot of them source cheap blank rotors for as cheap as possible from wherever and then they machine slots or holes into them for the "performance" look. You really don't need slots but if you want them, look into companies that are known for high quality materials or use OEM rotors to make theirs. Here is what I did.

Slave IV hit the nail on the head.

Slotted rotors look nice, in terms of their function they look that way because the slots are supposed to move air and dissipate heat. I don't really see that much brake temp being generated for general street driving. You'd have to be tracking or doing very, very spirited street driving for that to be necessary.

no complaints with these, had them on my jeep and my gti, albeit I had the back ones on the gti. I beat the crap out of them for 30k with track use and still was at 8mm when I let her go.... :( the slotted and dimpled ones were noisy tho.
