i find it funny how you can hate on nikon's newer products when you havent even tried/used it. hell, some of their older glass is better than canon's newer stuff. im done here, moving along.

i haven't used any dslr nikons. i've used plenty of their coolpix which i all hate.

coolpix vs dslr is like comparing vw to a skateboard.

Dude, I am a die-hard Canon Man and even I can recognize that Nikon has superior glass and superior metering. Canon is arguably more innovative and accessible and the stronger force pushing the industry forward. Nikon is the same or better in most other aspects though.

Anyway, if the OP is still paying attention, if I was in the ~$400 range I'd be getting a Canon S5 or, for a little more, G9.

I bought the Canon PowerShot SD1100IS for a point and shoot; At ~$200, it does pretty good IMO!
