Mine is in the center storage, under the arm rest. Your AUX jack, GTI being a 2006, should be located in the glove box.

Go to Wal-Mart, buy the $5 cord, jack is in the glove box (right side), as said before.

as far as I know it wasn't added til the 07's

I've got an earlier 06, mine does not have it. IIRC though there was the option from the factory to have it added.

If you don't, get an FM Transmitter for your iPod / Mp3 player.

get a modulator not a transmitter. unless you have good radio stations or like static you'll only be pissed with the transmitter.
