HID issues...need some help

Hey so i have. 2009 gti and am having big issues with my headlights.

So it all started with just the headlight flickering and basically deciding if it was going to come on or not. So i took my bumper off, checked the connections in the headlight itself they are all good. I then checked the ignitor and control unit, by switching them to the headlight on the drivers side and they ended up both good.

In the last couple days instead of my headlight not working its now my brake light on the same side of the car, and the headlight is good to go..

Anyone have any suggestions?

If i were you I would check the wiring inside. This is what I found when I opened my headlights to do a retrofit. My passenger side headlight kept shutting off and I found out it was the bare wires touching each other. I honestly don't know why VW doesn't do anything to fix this issue. Over the years their wiring insulation becomes brittle and begins to break into pieces. Ive seen it on some Audi and Mercedes Benz cars as well but not as bad as VW.

Anything you can think of that would cause it to change from headlight to brake light?
