I did my own thing, I could sport a faux hawk its cut the same way but I keep it short on the back, and all pulled forward and to the center. It would be like if you did a faux hawk and instead of having it spiked up its all flat on my head.
Been like that for the last month and a half or so. Still on the fence as to weather or not I like it. I do like it because I am starting to thin up top so it sort of hides that.

Bah that is what keeps everyone looking like Mr. Anderson from The Matrix. I hate the cookie cutter mentality of conforming.
Its not about conforming its about what looks responsible and instills confidence. I think hairstyle depends on what kind of job you have. For example I won't take anyone seriously where I work unless they have a classic hairstyle, but if I go to Hawaii and take surfing lessons I would prefer someone that has the hairstyle to fit the role.
I don't really care because I'll be almost bald by 40.
