CEL reset

I know our CEL's will reset if its the gas cap issue, but do they reset themselves for all issues?

I had one for a vacuum leak, and I fixed it yesterday, driven a good amount of times, and it has yet to reset itself.

Will it reset, or do I have to get it cleared?

I have the same question in a sense. I threw a CEL the other week, and it's gone away on it's own about a week later. What is the criteria for a CEL to clear/store itself away?
