well, like the title says.
if i put a decal on let's say, a cf hood, is there anyway that could damage the hood??

i don't imagine that it would but i just wanted to make sure. cf hoods aren't cheap:rolleyes:
thanks!

The hood won't fade where the vinyl is. If you ever take the vinyl off, you'll definately know it was there.

Wasnt really what he asked really was it.

When hes concerned with what you think about vinyls, I'm sure he'll ask.

OP: I imagine it'd leave marks where it was, due to the surrounding area getting dirty/worn and the covered bit not doing. It'd take some polishing to get it back I guess?

Get over yourself. Jesus.

Everybody's an instant expert purist on the internet.

The adhesive on the sticker shouldn't damage anything directly -- however, if the clearcoat doesn't have the appropriate UV protection (as some of the less expensive brands are prone to have) you might get a 'tanline' :)

Buy cast vinyl instead of calendared -- calendared will shrink and crack after about three or four years.

i love how i never said what it is i'm doing, yet it's instantly shat on nonetheless. i don't even know exactly what i'll be doing with vinyl, how can it be bad, tacky, rice, etc. already? hilarious. thanks to those who had something useful to say

so i'm looking at some possible outline action, but the bottom line is a good wash/wax and the "tan line" is gone?

besides dirt and all that, what about sun exposure? wouldn't leave a permanent outline?
thanks again.

that one made sense

Yeah, no vinyl stickers on a MKV, please. Very tacky.

i would hope that the vinyl is tacky or else it wouldnt stick... duh

Why waste all that money on a CF hood to cover it with Vinyl.. :yikes:

why get a TR gti and paint the hood black, or follow in the cowbell craze?

what you guys dont know is he could be asking because he may want to put a cover like a clear bra on it, or he may be racing the car and wants to put some sponsor stickers on the car temporarily....etc

dont be so quick to judge, it's his car, his money, not yours. he may be doing something amazing, but he may be doing something that only he will like... who cares, im sure you guys have all made perfect decisions and never a bad one, right?

I have a vinyl parking sticker for my dorms in the back window of my car and I guess because the sticker was always facing sun, half of it melted on to the window. It was a pain to get off. I don't know if that is normal, or just cheap quality sticker that the school handed out, but I am just putting it out there :]

No, that's the problem the "tan line" would be the result of the non-covered portion fading in the sun. Some heavy correction work can be done with an orbital polisher, but if the line is distinct enough it won't completely go away.

Making sure whatever you cover is properly clear coated, clean, and well protected by wax, or even better acrylic sealant, is one of the ways to slow the process. But if you were to leave a "sticker" on for a few years, I would expect a line no matter how well you protected the finish. So for the long run you may want to consider whatever it is you're doing temporary. Even a year, especially if your car sits outside a lot, could leave lines.

You're right, but meh, we all jump to conclusions from time to time. (or all the time)
