OK, I've had the car for three years. Just had the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat and a few other odds and ends done (98000 miles)
Now, the fans run really load and long which never happened before. Can I have this turned off without damage as for the last three years it didn't do it?

I'd advise against just turning off the fans (if you even can without actually disconnecting them). You need to find the root cause of why they're running all the time.

It's probably your ambient temp sensor going bad.

Had a similar issue recently. Fans would run at max rpm randomly no matter how hard the car was being driven. Also every time I shut the car off they'd kick on for about 5 minutes. Ect sensor ended up being the culprit in my case.
