I recently just bought my mkv from a used at dealer and want to lower it, I came onto this forum and looks around for a bit and noticed this car might already be lowered. I'm fortunate enough to have a lift in my garage and checked it out..I can't tell if the springs have been changed or not but the shocks are stock..how else can I tell? the measurements between the tire n fender? A little help would be ahhhsum-

measure your fender to ground or how much wheel gap you have. are the springs another color than black? if so then they are defiantly not stock

Ride height depends on year:

- earlier Mk.V GTI are 380 mm / 15" wheel center to fender
- later ones are 365 mm / 14.4"

Stock springs are black with some colored dots on them.

If you're going to lower it the thread about DG springs and Bilstein dampers.
Don't forget to replace strut bearings, top mounts, control arm bushings and
some bolts. You'll love that car if you've done it right !!

Lowered is when you tell yourself "maybe I should lower it some more"

Slammed is when you tell yourself "maybe I should raise is a little"

Lowered and slammed are a matter of interpretation, but generally a car that's lowered will go unnoticed by the general public and won't get any scene points if you can enter a car meet without scraping in a conspicuous manner.

You're slammed if the hands-in-pockets types actually talk to you at a show, or if random people in public ask if your car's broken.

Kidding aside, lowered usually means you can drive it without too many compromises, and slammed means you have no wheel gap and you can't clear a speed bump or do other normal things with your car.
