I haven't played much lately besides Need For Speed Most Wanted on the PC.. it's a little dated & the Need for Speeds are somewhat Arcady, but they're still fun as hell. It's one of the few games that gives me the 'floaty' feeling when I get in the groove with it.
And, best of all, you can get the GTI in it and do paint jobs/rims n shit! That feature alone is worth buying it IMO... and since it's older, I bet you can get it for like $10 from the store or cheaper online.
I hear Grid is supposed to be off the hook for 360's, some say that's the 'best' out there right now. Haven't tried it though... don't believe they make if for PC either.

GT5 prologue is my favorite at the moment. Can't wait until the full version comes out. I also have grid for PS3 which is pretty fun. Not so realistic, but enjoyable nonetheless. Not sure what's out there for the PC other than the Need for Speed franchise as mentioned by monkey

Race 07 as said be 4 is a great road race sim. A good rally race sim is XPand Rally. Great firey wrecks and the setups will make or break you. Lots of cars to choose from and good addons for Skyline Audi TT etc. But a good wheel and pedals is a must to get the best.

Sign up for Steam both can be dowloaded $20-30 a game, can't remeber.

Grid is the shit, blows need for speed out of the water, only thing is that you can't get the GTI in it. but it's still an awesome game. As far as racing games for PC, you're limited in your options compared to consoles.

I wouldn't say you're limited. Its just not as popular. With the advances they're making with dedicated physics processors, like the ones from Ageia, racing sims are better than they've ever been on PC's.
You might want to check out GTR2... theres a playable demo that you can download at Gamespot, and it got good ratings to boot.
