What do you guys think about this computer for $550?

* Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
* Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic - English
* 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs
* Dell USB Keyboard and Dell Optical USB Mouse
* 22 inch Samsung 2220WM Widescreen Analog/Digital Black LCD Monitor
* Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
* 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
* Integrated 10/100 Ethernet
* 56K PCI Data Fax Modem
* 48X CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
* Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
* 1Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24x7 Phone Support
* $100 Dell gift card in 4-6 weeks

I know 1gb is not much, but ram, i'm not worried about, i can buy it much cheaper elsewhere. i don't really play games either, so no real need to upgrade the video card.

needs more memory(RAM), and integrated graphics are horrible......prbly won't run Vista that well with those specs.

between the Monitor and the gift card....its worth it though!

the 22" will be a nice upgrade from the 20. actually, a pretty big difference.

yeah, video is horrible, but i don't think any of these are that great, plus i don't play games anyways.
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 [Included in Price]
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS [add $50 or $2/month1]
128MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO [add $60 or $2/month1]
256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT [add $150 or $5/month1]

i think i'm better off buying ram elsewhere considering the cost:

1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs [Included in Price]
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs [add $100 or $3/month1]
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs [add $250 or $8/month1]
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 4DIMMs [add $370 or $11/month1]
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 2DIMMs [add $150 or $5/month1]
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 4DIMMs [add $420 or $13/month1]
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs [add $300 or $9/month1]

your right about the RAM. you can find cheaper elsewhere. but Integrate graphics are crap. Vista is memory and graphics heavy. really takes a decent graphics card to run smoothly.

the ram i'll def upgrade to at least 2gb, if not 3gb. with 2/3gb ram, would it still not run smoothly with the integrated graphics?

these are my graphics options. keep in mind i don't play games. at most, i'd consider the 8300 or 2400, but i'm assuming that these are bottom of the barrel cards.

128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS [add $50 or $2/month1]
128MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO [add $60 or $2/month1]
256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT [add $150 or $5/month1]

would i be better off buying a video card separately?

Yeah, get the video cards separately, as long as you feel confidant that you can install it yourself.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130288

This one is only $50 with an available rebate, so its realy like $35, and is better than any of the one's Dell is offering you.

Buying/installing video cards and ram is, most of the time, cheaper than what the computer companies are charging you.

If you trust in us, we can walk you through the installation process to buy/install these gizmos.

P.S. I believe Vista recommends at least 1gb to run their OS, so yes, you're right about upgrading to at least 2gb.

i just built my new PC for about $900 and its a monster.

your best bet is to buy RAM and vid card from newegg and not dell.
the prices will be cheaper and installation is cake.

vista is a very memory intensive OS and i still use XP because of it. XP service pack 3 is expected soon so i am going to hold off until that to upgrade and that is what most of my school is doing as well.

Thing about computers is once you start you just cant stop. I just recently upgraded my old pc with a new mother board, processor, ram, and video card. Cost me a nice $450 for the video card alone but now I can run crysis on high settings =D

And to dpham: In a sense its worth it because you wouldent be using it for games but I would defiantly get another gig of ram and the nvidia 8300 GS if you dont want to build it yourself. The monitor alone is $300 and with that gift card that makes up most of the pc.

In my old pc that I was running vista on I had an nvidia 6600 GTS. Much lower quality graphics card than the 8300.
