I might be a jerk for this, but I was looking into buying a new head unit for my car but I didn't want to read 88 pages.. can someone tell me the pros and cons of this hu? Preferably someone who has had it in their car and is from the US . Thanks in advanced.

Pros:
  1. Mine still works wonderfully as it did from Day 1. Going on 8 months of ownership soon.
  2. Steering wheel controls are retained (only a few people received units that couldn't do this).
  3. Ability to upgrade your GPS software to whatever you like. I still run iGo Primo. Included GPS antenna picks up signal pretty well.
  4. Plays a decent variety of .mpg and .avi files straight off an SD card, attached storage device, or off burned DVD's.
  5. Plays DVD's while in motion right out of the box.
  6. Bluetooth streaming works well for apps like Pandora from smartphones. Great quality when doing this.
  7. Accepts SD cards up to 32GB (largest I've personally tested).
  8. LOTS of options for adjusting treble, bass, balance, subwoofer settings, etc...
  9. Compatible with a subwoofer setup right out of the box. Also has wires to hookup a backup camera if you so choose.
  10. 3 Dimmer settings to lower the light output of the screen when driving at night.

Cons:
  1. No support from Semting any more, just through the factory (which has shown little optimism for warrantying these units).
  2. Some people reported MAJOR problems with their units such as a unit that shorted out and filled the cabin with smoke. Others, like myself, seem to have gotten fairly good units that continue to perform well. Seems hit or miss.
  3. Music Playback screen only displays first 10-12 letters of each filename and does NOT scroll so unless you label your folders well you might not know which song is playing even when looking.
  4. Bluetooth phonebook syncing is NOT compatible with iPhones of any variety.
  5. My unit (while displaying the audi playback menu on the MFD) will occasionally just have the Audio MFD screen disappear. At this point your steering wheel controls will still control the audio but you can no longer cycle through MFD menus for other things. This can only be fixed by stopping and turning the car off/on again. I remedy this by exiting the audio MFD menu once I've found the track I want and not staying in it too long, but still inconvenient.
  6. Screen has a LOT of glare. Would recommend buying a NuShield brand glare/screen protector for $20 if you buy this unit.
  7. With iGo Primo, the unit will still make a noise when the GPS signal is lost even if you mute ALL system noises on the unit. So if you're like listening to the radio, sometimes the radio will cut out for 1-1.5 seconds while the unit attempts to play a sound for the "GPS signal lost" but instead of playing a sound it just cuts out all sound for the unit. Very annoying but I solve the problem by simply leaving my SD Card for the GPS slot unplugged when I don't need to use GPS. Fixes that problem.
  8. Call quality with the built-in mic is hit or miss. Some people have said they can hear me fine, others said I sound like I'm talking in a barrel. I have a high quality microphone I've been meaning to install for months now to improve this issue but haven't gotten around to it yet.
  9. My unit doesn't sit 100% flush with the surrounding dash trim. On the top it does, but on the bottom it protrudes maybe 1/8" from where it should be flush. I tried over 10 times to get it to go in further but it simply does not. Doesn't bother me that bad but figured I'd mention it.

This is about all I can think of at the moment really. Hope that helps.

^^^^ Don't forget, sometimes radio signal is awful. Mine never got resolved. Asshole was quick to give me a sales pitch, and take my money. But when it came down to my unit not having a radio all I ever got was "I'll get back to you." I'll talk to the 'engineers' I'll get back to you". Mine works okay, but my Nav doesn't do shit anymore, and I haven't had a radio from day one. Last I'd ever deal with one of the POS Chinese units. My money would have been better well spent with a quality reliable reputable company like oh I don't know Alpine/Pioneer/Anyoneelse.

I spent a long time trying to figure out why I had terrible reception but finally fixed mine 100% in my post I made a long time ago. I pick up stations from really far away even, just as good as I did stock.

But yeah, the biggest con I can mention is ZERO SUPPORT any more. Keep that in mind heavily before you think of buying.

I still have the problem where my headunit doesn't start with my car :(

I have noticed that mine does that more often when I have left my headlights on. It seen like the issue is connected with the screen dimming feature.

This software is not compatible with the machine, include Port, baud rate, the parameter and so on...

I have a new Primo 2.0 Running now for a few days without a hitch. Still doing some testing but it looks to be stable at this point. Give it a few more days and i'll get some links up.
