on topic: think of breaking in ur car like bench pressing.. in order to work out right to gain muscle.. first you gotta strain to see what ur max bench press is in order to gain. So drive ur car hard.. so it can learn to gain.. some cars actually get faster with age.. for examble a rotary..rx7-rx8.. all get faster over time..

Break in is basically like wearing in a new pair of shoes. The idea is you slowly let oil get everywhere it needs to go and let the engine loosen up a bit before giving it horns. Some guys believe in, others don't. Kind of a mystery really.

Chipping isn't illegal, it's just not approved by manufactures and it will void the warranty if detected. But it's perfectly legal.

in california, chipping is illegal because it messes (or could mess with) with emissions, same reason why intakes and cats are illegal. in the past, there have been some chips (intakes, cats) with a CARB EO, and those are legal for use in CA. not sure if any of the mkv stuff has a CARB EO right now though. warranty is a different issue.

I think it is illegal as well. But you should still be able to pass emissions because they dyno it no more than 30 mph. I heard that Neuspeed products are CA emission reg. friendly.

best way is to hold the clutch in and put the gas to the floor...hold it there for 10 minutes or until oil turns to varnish...then you know its done...

I followed the manual that comes with the car for break in...then I waited until after my first oil change...and then go apr...

And it becomes break in procedure thread #32767

I've heard boost the car, give a good amount of throttle, but avoid higher RPM.

I'd say get the program done later, that way you'll appreciate it more.

I waited until about 20,000 miles before remapping. I did my hardware mods first. No regrets - Quite the contrary. My VW dealer is cool about my remap too and I can switch to stock for servicing sessions.

Same with mine...........I bought it already warmed over! 91 kit, cold air induction kit with K&N,Borla header to tailpipe with a resonator, Eibach Spring Kit,with front and rear sway bars, adjustable shocks,17' ASA Mags with Bridgestone G009 rubber.......a few other small mods made but a pretty balanced package for FWD! Still beating the bushes for a lip spoiler.....closest I have come is one from Rieger but trying to make sure it will fit 2006 Rabbit!
