HELP! FSI vs TDI

Hey guys and gals... First time here. Which mk 5 do you think is a better deal for the same money: 1.6FSI with 20000 miles on the clock or 1.9TDI with 50000 miles?

Thanks for your help. BTW, 2.0TDI and 1.4TSI are not really options.

I suppose the TDI would be cheaper with 50000 miles racked up already. Those TDI engines are pretty solid and efficient. I would have to know more about each to make a good decision though. Do you have more information, or some pictures?

I would be inclined to say that kind of depends on what your end goal is. If you want all out performance with ok mileage, go TSI. If mileage is more important than performance....TDI is your bet. The TDI is no slouch and you can mod them up pretty good, but a modded TSI will be faster. Like I say, it all depends on what you are looking to get out of the car. Bear in mind, insurance rates on the TDI will most likely be signifigantly lower.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. As far as I can tell, both cars are materially in very decent condition and are similarly specced apart from the engine. As I said, the prices are identical.

In fact, the stats say that the petrol 1.6FSI is (very slightly) quicker 0-60mph than the diesel 1.9TDI. However, I've heard good things about VW diesel engines - even the weaker ones.

I suppose my question is: do you think that the extra control from the diesel's increased torque is worth a 30000 mile penalty?

I'm not exactly a boy racer - just a normal mix of urban, rural and motorway driving, but I live in a pretty hilly area and am fed up of driving a car where it takes 10 seconds after putting pressure on the pedal for any sort of response!

I think 1.9tdi (105pd) and map, but not the motor sound¡¡ trac trac trac , jejeje.
And the 1.6 fsi (115pd) acceleration isn't very good but i love its sound ... my friend has one.

1.6 FSI? Ah, yeah I forgot....England.....no contest...1.9 TDI.
As for the difference in miles, the TDI is just getting broken in at that. The Diesel will easily outlast the FSI gas motor.

That's what I was thinking. The diesel engine will last a long time if you take good care of it. Hopefully this one has been taken car of pretty well up to this point.
