I finally found time this past week to peel off the fabric covering the backrest of the seat to check on the airbag connections. After performing the TSB myself, checking every other connection, and putting the seat back together in the car, I'm hoping this will be the end of it for me. Pending vagcom to clear the fault.
I'm willing to bet that the issue is resistance since the wire going from the floor to the airbag is incredibly thin. When the fault comes back which I'm willing to bet it is, I'm going to swap the single strand of copper for some speaker wire i have laying around. Also, the floor plug doesnt seem to be very reliable either.
