Speakers cutting out.

Ready to race!
I have a 2008 rabbit. It's nothing fancy as far as audio goes from factory. It had the iPod hook up in the air rest and the basic CD player.

Anyways , in the last year or so some of the speakers cut in and out and worked intermittent as they please. I figured it was blown speakers. So I replaced the front door speakers with a 3 way co axe speaker , eliminating the use of factory tweeters as well. I also spent a few days fighting the rear and doing the same with 3 way co axe speakers in the back. I have a two door so I know some of you feel the pain. I also installed a new head unit which is the 3rd one this car has had. After it was all said and done I tested them out. To my surprise at high volume it still does the same cutting in and out. I'm lost. To my knowledge this car didn't come with a factory amp or anything. I'm not an amateur when it comes to this as I've been doing installs and building mini trucks for years. So this one is alil over my head as far as wtf it could be. I didn't know if it was some kind of vw issue. Because the next step is to wire it to the head unit and throw and amp on it. But I'd still like to know what could be causing this.

Any help or insight would be great.

Thank you.

I had a similar problem, Posted a thread called "Help" in this section.
My speakers would actually blow up, and the noise would illegible. and recently they blew up and the door speakers stopped working in their entirety, I narrowed down my problem to the HU.
If your speakers are cutting out at high volumes, first try to see if its just the front (door speakers) or the rear, or both.
if your HU is replaced, and were 100% its not he HU. This narrows things down to 2 possiblities, and maybe even a third but doubtful.
1- the HU cannot handle the high volumes, because you don't have an amp (Me either, base GTI)
2- if its just the fronts cutting out at high volumes, there is a crossover amp in the door behind the subwoofer, when diagnosing my problem, I took of the door amp, opened it and found it to be a bit rusty, but it still worked.
3- wires, wires, wires. and maybe even a loose connection to the HU from the clip connector. especially at high speeds and high volumes things are vibrating moving, and a loose jigggling wire will cause intermittent cut outs in tunes.
shit now im thinking
4- a bad ground, there are many grounds, but its always good to scrub clean the battery terminal ground and the opposite connector by the starter to ensure that, there are also 4 more in the interior, but they should be good unless you've ever got the car really wet inside to create humidity and rust over there.
and a tip!
Hold the select or tune button for 3 -5 second (if its a factory HU) and a a menu should pop up scroll through it till ya hit "Speed Dep Volume" turn it off!! thats what destroyed my HU.
I know I'm not specifically pointing out whats wrong with yours, but thats because I'm not exactly sure what you mean in your description, but either way I give you list, of possibilities.

Ground short in the wiring somewhere. All speakers cut out together? Likely a short somewhere back behind the HU.
