Since you are thinking the overboost might have been the culprit, what would cause it to overboost to begin with?

It seems like that's the one thing me and nkresho had in common. Also I just got my car back. It was the number #4 rod that made a run for it (driver's side). I'm not sure what could have caused our overboosts. Usually it's improper wastegate control and for our cars that the N75 valve controlled by the ECU.

Mine was the WGA, I think. It was a factory calibrated k04 and brand new when I bought it. It still had the factory red paint (Loctite) on the threads. After a few weeks of tinkering, I ended up loosening it a few turns and the issue was resolved. I'd say while I was working with it, I boosted to 30 maybe 10-12 times, most times, letting off the gas as soon as I saw it happen.

This is all like three years ago though. No issues with overboosting, since.

Another issue I resolved after the whole wastegate thing, was my thermostat. It had been sticking open and not allowing the car up to operating temp. Maybe unrelated...
