I'd like to start by saying thanks to everyone taking the time to read this and give me your help and advice I really appreciate it thank you!

I am a college student and this is my first car, I purchased this on my own. I don't make a lot of money but enough to prioritize my car and keep up with it. But not to be raped by mechanics
2008 Mk5 GTI 131kMiles
K&N CAI

So I ran into some issues with my car my EPC and CEL came on. It was completely sluggish. I could barley hit 30 rpm for pass 40mph. I went and got my car diagnose only to be told that i needed a new HPFP and CAM follower.

I went and got the parts, got the car serviced and was good to go. Literally the next day my CEL came back on. I took the car back to get it checked out. One of the shop managers cleared the code then tells me that the CEL came on because the car needed gas.(I know what CEL comes on because the car needs gas gtfoh)I then speak the mechanic and he tells me that it was from a "build up" around one of the sensors next to the alternator. He said he noticed it when working on the HPFP. I then asked "is this safe to drive?" He says yes. So I took the car on his word.

Two days later my car looses all power! This has never happened before. Along with the CEL the battery light comes on and I'm stuck on the road.
I manage to get the car back to the shop and he tells me its because of these codes

00576 Terminal 15 Electrical Problem In Circut
00883 Ignition Switch (D) Terminal S Electrical Problem
00885 Ignition Switch (D) Terminal 50 Electrical Problem
00884 Ignition Switch (D) Terminal X Electrical Problem
01744 Igniton Switch Terminal P (D) Electrical Problem

Guys I have no idea what any of this mean. I am learning as I go. This is a first for me. But, I do not want to be raped by these mechs that is why I'm asking for your help. I got this car diagnosed 06/08/2017. Every time I went back they changed the reason why my car was having issues.

I don't understand why they didn't fix these issues. They appeared on the diag but they didn't acknowledge it to me or did anything about it.

Should I have to pay for this? Are they being honest? Have this ever happened to you? What should I do?

Thank you again.

Looks like you need a new ignition switch electrical part.

Did they give you or show you the old hpfp and follower? Was the cam follower ever checked in its maintenance history? '08 had the updated intake cam but they still should be checked and if you in deed needed a new hpfp and CF you should check yours more frequently because the cam probably has some damage that will cause the CF to wear faster.

They didn't but I did ask for the old parts. They both looked ok to me. I;m not sure if the CF was ever checked before I purchased the car but, I had the car diagnosed(at a VW dealership) before going to this particular shop and they told me my CF was good. It looks good to me as well.
