Rather unfortunate but I just bought a high mileage 2008 GTI Mk5 FSI yesterday and took it home 2hr drive and everything and it was fine. It's needed a new battery and gave out on me today. While trying to jump the car, there was the normal struggle to start and eventually, some bad metal noises started to happen and I called it quits. I then looked underneath the car and some oil came out along with a small bolt, as well as about 6-10 inches of chain. Any ideas what happened? Could this have been a chain connected to the starter, or the entire timing chain itself? Either way, it looks like this is going to be a nightmare and I'm trying to figure out what to do.
