What would really help out is if I could find pics of 18 in wheels with 225/40r18 tires on stock suspension GTI. I could just be assuming that it won't look nice to me. I searched the forums but I couldn't find any.

the only way to really close some of the wheel gap with stock height is 19's with XXX/40/19 on. even then with out lowering the car wheel gap will always be apparent, there for not a good look :p

Since you are keeping the stock suspension for and I see that you don't want to lower it - Stock tire sizing will be 225/40/18, no need for anything else at this time.

That's what I'm going with. Still not sure about lowering since I live in Las Vegas, home of the never-ending speed bumps.
