I just finished up hard wiring the passport x50 radar detector with hard wire smart control feature. It is very simple to do.
I was originally planning on tapping into the power in the overhead console, but due to the smart control cable I purchased that did not make sense anymore. I ended up pulling the power from the fuse box. The unit is grounded in the fuse box as well.
That is the remote smart control unit. it has a light for power and one for activity. It also has a mute button.
Unit is posted up high and the phone cord power cable thing is stuffed back into the headliner, and then makes its way down to the fuse box.
Top arrow is where I grounded. Bottom arrow is where I piggybacked onto the sunroof fuse for power.
If you don't need the remote, then you could simply tap into the overhead which would also be pretty easy, but requires more time then opening the fuse box.
