Has anyone in Aus re-mapped their ECU (APR, Revo, ??) at this stage?
I am looking at getting mine done but am limited in choice due to location (I like to be near my tuner). Coming from a WRX background I admit to having a bit of sticker shock at the prices quoted for a simple flash (last WRX was just on $1k). I have no beef with a company making money and will pay the market rate but I am trying to understand why there are huge differences based on worldwide geographical location. It is not like there is any physical component being shipped. From the APR websites it APPEARS we get the same package - maybe I am wrong.
As an example:
Australia
APR ECU Upgrade with Two Programs AUD$1999
US
2006 GTI 2.0T 246hp/282lb-ft 252hp/303lb-ft USD$599.00
I think you then need to add the "2 programs (i.e. - Stock and Chipped) $149" option.
TOTAL US Equivalent = USD$748 (~AUD$992)
UK
2.0T Price - £599 Offer - £499
Again, hard to tell but I think you need to add the EMCS "1 Extra Program from choice of (Chipped/Optimax/Race Fuel) £99"
TOTAL UK Equivalent = £598 (~AUD$1,495)
Again, I am not trying to stir up anything with the suppliers and I appreciate market size etc. but for a software upgrade a difference of $500 -> $1000 seems excessive.
If I am missing something in the comparative products being sold into the different markets please educate me! Most of my reading of the APR solution has been US based.
