Hybrid Turbo

I mailed my spare K03 today to a performance shop in Chicago. They are going to build a hybrid turbo for my car. The goal is for it to flow 350-370 crank hp efficiently. I am writing to see if there is an interest in the community for this kind of product.

Also I currently run GIAC software, do you guys think that the car will run well with a turbo that is designed to make around the same power as a K04-64. I figure I will try and run it on K04 software. If not my back up plan is to see if Unitronic would be willing to create a custom tune.

Why didn't you find out before hand to see if anyone will custom tune it before you are left shit outta luck with no tune for it. And what are the specifications of this "Hybrid" Turbo. You are not providing enough info to see if anyone would be interested in the first place.

I am just curious if some people are looking for an alternative to the KO4 that does not cost a lot. It seems ridiculous that VW sells our cars with a K03 when all of its competitors come with a K04 or comparable sized turbo. Also the cost of a K04 kit still seems very high with the exception of the Eurojet and KMD kit. The shop is going take my turbo and see what size compressor and turbine wheel they can fit. The goal is 350 crank hp.

I am not sure if it will work or not, particularly I am not concerned if it works or not. I have money burning a hole in my pocket and I thought it would be fun to experiment. I know Unitronic creates custom tunes so I am sure I have a solid plan B for tuneability, I was just curious if people thought GIAC 's K04-64 flash might be compatible.

Best of luck getting GIAC's k04 software without purchasing the entire kit from AWE or Stasis. From what I gather, unlike the other major tuners, GIAC doesn't offer this software separate from those companies kits. Uni is probably going to end up being your best bet.

Thanks for the input rbradleymedmd, I hope Auto Assets in Columbus will help me out with a flash. If they don't, well on to plan B and running Unitronic

I like their stage 1 tune but lately they have been dropping the ball. GIAC is horrible about returning emails. I sent them one a month ago and I have yet to receive a response specifically on whether they sell the K04 flash seperately from the kits that run their software .

Lets hope GIAC pulls through. I have money to burn but I am also trying to keep total cost below $2800 for turbo, software, fuel pump, and ancilaries

So far

Autotech HPFP $323
Injectors (need to buy) ~ $600
Spare K03 $150
Turbo (assuming same price as MS3 hybrid) ~$651
GIAC Software $800
Extra stuff ~$200
Having the turbo placard still say K03 ~ Priceless

my friend kindof rebuilds turbos on the side and he seems to think he could find/make some hot and cold side wheels for my K03 as well. I will not let him touch it until there is an actual problem with my current one, but I don't see why it couldn't be done.

FYI, IIRC, the Subaru 2.5 XT has a SMALLER turbo than our k03

didn't ATP do something similar bringing the K03 to roughly the GT28 turbo?

But I believe this was for the Audi setup...
