Sometimes you need an ejector seat (switch)

Hi all, seeing Maverick's post (*) about custom switches from carstyle4you.com (**) for the GTI I thought I'd have a go, I modified a garage opener to connect to the garage door opener (***) and that is tucked away under the glove box in the lining (it has batteries which makes the install even easier) the Eject Seat is not a switch as such, just a light - the Garage Door is a temporary switch.

One thing I would note that when I connected up the ESP switch the light stayed on, which I messed around for ages thinking something was wrong - however once I drove done the road to test it everything was fine. ESP light went out.

Price wise, because they're OEM VW switches they are a little bit pricey, but the quality is fantastic and looks great having all those four switches filled up.

Cool mod. But do you think it is wise to wire up your garage door remote to the car? I mean if it gets stolen you are basically giving away the keys to your home as well.

I suppose if you left it in the cubby hold below light switch or centre console or ash tray then the effect would be the same. thief might be too dumb to just press a switch.

cool mod, always wanted to do this.
Then saw triode's comment and thought twice.
Then realised i have it 3M'd to the flattish section near the euro light switch anyway!
So back on the ok side now!!

So how do the lit up switches get power?
Are you connecting to another swith's source, splicing, or getting power from somewhere else?

Yeah, most people have garage openers in their cars anyway - but our garage doesn't lead into the house (can't see why if it did you wouldn't have a deadlock on the door anyway, if you don't you should).

The switch draws power via piggy backing (see picture) I gaffaed the switches so they wouldn't drop out.

In the picture (above) with the orange switch you can see the piggy back plug, the white plug is all plugged in and you can see the lead on the right side of the white plug.

Only way to steal the Golf is by taking the keys so either they take them from your home or they carjack you so they have the keys to your home!

I mean if you stole my car right now you would also get my opener too since I keep it in the car...

Unless your home keys aren't on your car keys (mine aren't)...
My wife's (who drives the car more) are unfortunately...

Jack it onto pins 3 and 6 of the esp or tpms buttons. I can take a photo tomorrow if you like as my car is all apart from front and rear ops install and part of this involves wiring up front parking sensor button with illumination wires which i getting by jacking off the esp button. (that sounded wrong).

I tested this tonight by pulling the plug from esp button and connecting wires from park pilot button. all worked good.

Neither are mine. Also my garage remote is the size of a small car remote and I don't keep both remotes together either or leave the garage remote in the car.

Who is going to car jack car & then drive it back to your house in order to loot it? Well the NSW state government does come close...
